As my journey from Year 8 to Year 14 draws to an end it gives me a chance to reflect on all the opportuni-
ties and experiences I have had throughout my 7 years at Dunclug College. Having been given the oppor-
tunity of being Head Boy in my final year was something I am extremely grateful for. I worked hard to ob-
tain the position by ensuring my work was always up to standard, having good attendance and making
sure my attitude to school was positive. This role included working alongside the Head Girl, Jessica and a
team of Senior Prefects. This was a well bonded team who were willing to give up their free time to at-
tend school for late night events, lunchtimes activities and meetings to organise and run events.
One of the main reasons I wanted to attend Dunclug College was due to the fact they had football as an
extracurricular activity and how that paid off! From Year 8 to Year 12 I threw myself into sporting life of
school playing basketball, rugby, football. I played for enjoyment and of course for the competition!
Throughout my years I was part of the football team coached by Mr Douglas. I was given the opportunity
to captain the team to the league and cup trophy for 5 consecutive years! This success gave me and a few
others the opportunity to compete in the Ballymena district team, this team included players from all
schools in the surrounding area.
The staff in the College always want the pupils to strive for their best and step out of their comfort zones.
This was indeed the case for me, from sports field to centre stage in November 2018 when I played ‘Fagin’
one of the lead roles in the musical ‘Oliver Twist’. This involved me singing, dancing and acting! I had nev-
er completed anything like this before however, “A ship is safe at shore – but that Is not what it’s built
for!” I feel I have become a more confident and mature person through the opportunities I have been
presented with at school.
At A-Level I am studying BTEC Level 3 Sport, Technology and Design and Professional Business Services. I
then hope to go to University to develop my knowledge
and passion for sport by studying Sports Science to then
become a PE Teacher. I have always wanted to pursue
teaching as a career, and what better way to do it than
combine my passion for education and sport! I have no
doubt the next chapter of my life will present challenges
and hurdles but I know that the resilience and commit-
ment I have harnessed at school will stand by me!
Lastly, I would like to thank Mrs Wilson for leading such a
driven team of staff and creating a school, when walking
through the door you feel part of something, a family. Not
only does Dunclug College provide you with a platform to
succeed but a nurturing environment where every child
matters and has potential. I took full advantage of every
attribute the College had to offer, and I know I will thrive
because of it! I wish the new Head Boy, Head Girl and all
pupils of the school an enjoyable, exciting and fulfilling
journey as it really is the best days of your life!
