This is a society of immediacy – which means
we like things to happen in the here and now!

We want to know things instantly – we want to
respond in the moment – whether we have

thought about it or not, whether it is really ac-
curate or not and indeed whether or not we

will regret it! The world of social media makes
                                                            this all the more possible!

The curriculum in school offers you many things – the vitality of good literacy, the im-
portance of being numerate, of knowing how the world works, of understanding the past

from many perspectives, of striving for excellence and being resilient when the going gets
tough. Concealed underneath, is the ability to think and to reason, to reserve judgement

until you are sure, and to act in a way that is right when it is time to act! That is why we
have chosen as our motto: ‘Preparing for Life’. We want to prepare our young people to

go into society with a perspective that is not influenced by every passing fad or sugges-
tion, but grounded in our faith and values.

Yes, sometimes our communication with the community at large is immediate – by Face-
book, Twitter, Parent App or Text – but The Bellfort is the stock-take of the year, and a vis-

ual record in word and pictures of the best of a passing year at Dunclug! It records a myri-

ad achievement of our young people, and also reflects those values and that unique school
identity we all share. I sincerely congratulate students featured in this issue and wish them
continued success in their school journey.

For those who leave us and who have enjoyed success, I urge you to go forward with no
sense of limitation for what you can be, have or do in your lives. For those who face ongo-

ing challenges, take courage and find strength in the broken places, and remember – never
ever give up! Often the rewards that come later are the best of all.

A big thank you to all who have contributed to these hallowed pages, and also to our

community, parents, friends, businesses and fellow schools, for your
         support in 2018/19.
