NI Direct are urging farmers in Northern Ireland to take care this lambing season. The warning is specifically for pregnant women as some ewe’s can carry infections which may prove as a rick to the inborn child. NI Direct share this warning on their website. Northern Ireland advice from Farmers at Lambing season Reports of these infections are extremely rare. But it is important that pregnant women are aware of the potential risks associated with close contact with these animals and that they take appropriate precautions. To avoid the possible risk of infection, pregnant women are advised that they should: not help to lamb ewes not provide assistance with a cow that is calving or a nanny goat that is kidding avoid contact with aborted or new-born lambs, calves or kids or with the afterbirth, birthing fluids or materials (for example, bedding) contaminated by such birth products avoid handling (including washing) clothing, boots or any materials which may have come into contact with animals that have recently given birth, their young or afterbirths. Potentially contaminated clothing will be safe to handle after being washed on a hot cycle ensure their partner attending lambing ewes or other animals takes appropriate health and hygiene precautions, including the wearing of personal protective equipment and clothing, and adequate washing to remove any potential contamination seek medical advice if they experience fever or flu-like...

Seven Towers Male Voice Choir – Ballymena Braid Centre

The Ballymena Braid Centre will host the Seven Towers Male Voice Choir in March. The Seven Towers Male Voice Choir will be performing in Ballymena on Friday 20 & Saturday 21 March 2015 from 8.00pm (doors open 7.15pm). The Seven Towers Male Voice Choir is based in Ballymena, County Antrim, an ancient market town on the coach road between Derry and Belfast. The members however are drawn from a wide area. The weekly practices are held at the Bowling Club, Old Ballymoney Road, on Mondays at 8.00pm from September to April. The choir sings a wide range of secular and sacred music, both classical and modern. The concerts raise funds for national charities and also support smaller local ventures. The Choir has performed in the past to a wider audience in Ireland, Great Britain, Germany and Canada. The choir has a present membership of 55 men, most of whom travel from many parts of the province to practice once per week. The present season commenced on a very encouraging note when four new members joined our ranks and one lapsed member was able to return. We welcome new members and hope they will enjoy the singing, comradeship and close friendship which has existed in the Seven Towers Male Voice Choir down through the years.
