Here at Ballymena Today our camera phone has become one of our most important tools for keeping you up to date with all the things that are going on in our Ballymena Community. When you are using a normal camera up to date lenses can be great for zooming in on details. Unfortunately most camera phones are unable to recreate the same quality when zoomed in. Our advice is to take your snap and then crop it later. That way you capture the whole image, it will be good quality and then you can crop it to frame you subject perfectly later on. Lots of phones now have their own cropping function under ‘edit’. 2/ Edit before you filter. We all love adding a filter but any respectable photographer is likely to give filters a miss and edit the photo manually instead. That it what makes lots of professional images stand out for the rest. Phone Apps such as SnapSeed or Photoshop Express can be really useful. Just upload your picture and place around with settings including brightness and contrast. This will help you to create your own style and make your pictures stand out. 3/ Take lots of pictures. Over the next 5 years, the world of retail is going to radically change. Currently there is the Wholesale model. And there is a Direct model. But it will soon be joined by another model. Each day their followers go and find what they are doing, where they are, and yes, what they are wearing. This in shop terms is footfall. No bricks and mortar shop has 400K of football each day. But some of the Instagrammers do. One day, one morning, they will wake up and figure out they can use this influence to make money, to sell things. That day is coming. And that day for some has already arrived. They have influence. And they will master how to use it. Ballymena Bookclub – Spill Simmer Falter Wither

Spill Simmer Falter Wither is the latest title to be picked by Ballymena Bookclub. Written by young Irish author Sara Baume this novel is touted as a wholly different kind of love story, that spans the four seasons echoed in the novel’s title. Sara was born in Lancashire and grew up in Co. Cork. She studied Fine Art at Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design before completing a Master’s in Creative Writing at Trinity College, Dublin. Her short fiction has been published in The Dublin Review, The Moth, The Penny Dreadful, The Stinging Fly and the Irish Independentas part of the Hennessy New Irish Writing series. In 2014 she won the Davy Byrnes Award. She lives in Cork with her two dogs. (Source). With an award already under her belt we are very excited about reading her latest work. Last month the group had mixed feelings about Look Who’s Back by Time Vermes. Not sure if the translation from German conveyed the same wit as the origianl a few readers were left cold by this bestseller.
