2017 Hospice Walk in the Ballymena Area

The Ballymena/Broughshane sponsored walk is one of 10 walks being organised by the NI Hospice for 2017. If this date or venue doesn’t suit you, click here to see all the other options. The NI Hospice say, “Pick the Hospice Walk that works best for you, then get your family and friends on-board, gather sponsorship money and get walking.”

So why take part in the 2017 Hospice Walks? Northern Ireland Hospice nurse, Deborah McAllister explains more.

“On average, a Hospice nurse walks 3-4 miles per shift. This is equivalent to 8,000 steps per day, and the length of one Hospice Walk route.  With each step we take, we are providing specialist, 24-hour palliative care to children and adults with life-limiting illnesses. Whilst all care is free of charge to the patient, unfortunately it is not free to provide. By choosing to support the Hospice Walk, this will allow us to continue to provide specialist palliative care to children and adults with terminal illnesses.”
