Ballymena Today Youth Team – What to Wear

Our Ballymena Today Team provide another great article to help you know what to wear for every eventuality. Take it away Elizabeth. . . . . Men – you can tune off now. I have a feeling that this blog won’t apply to you because “I don’t know what to wear!” I know for a fact that I have said this phrase many of times in my life; and now that it is no longer ‘shorts and sandal’ season, “I have no idea what to wear” – even though I have a whole wardrobe full of clothes. Most of my clothes are probably crumpled up in a ball in my drawers somewhere. If you can relate to this I would stay tuned and read this article. Clothes are reusable It’s shocking isn’t it? You can actually wash your clothes and wear them again, and again, and again until they are too small, worn out or so stained that you have to throw them out. I know I think about this sometimes when I am going out with my friends, but to tell you the truth, they probably won’t even notice if you have worn that top 2 days in a row. So make sure that you don’t just wear something once and never again. Night out Going for a fancy night out with your friends? – or even a guy?...

How to survive the Transfer Test

We know that the Transfer Tests are looming in Ballymena and lots of children and their parents are unsure as to what lies ahead. Here’s Rachel, from our Ballymena Today Youth Team, telling us about her experiences of sitting the transfer test in 2013…… It was “transfer test” day and I was driven up to the school where I would be sitting it. In the car park, a Peer Mentor (secondary school pupil) met me and took me up to the room where the rest of my primary school P7 class were, who were also taking the tests, plus two...

Ballymena Today Youth Team – How to write an essay

Ballymena Today Youth Team member Elizabeth says – To be honest with you I really don’t like writing essays; but they do help me to organise my thoughts, learn all the facts that I need to pass the exams and show me how well I know or don’t know the topic! Therefore I have decided to give you some advice on how you could write an essay. Step 1 Introduction – drop the reader straight into the action. Essays should always start with a good introduction, especially the first sentence as that will determine whether the reader finds it interesting enough to read the rest of the essay. The introduction shouldn’t be too long but should get straight to the point or issue as quickly as possible. It should indicate what the essay is about, the reason for writing it and any personal opinions that will interest the reader. In the introduction you do not need to give too much information away – save that for the main part of essay. Step 2 Paragraph – this is the main body of your essay. You should pack this with most of the information. If you don’t understand something look it up, but make sure that you don’t copy and paste – that is a really bad habit that you could get sucked into, and believe it or not, the teachers know...

Playing the flute

Rachel, from our Ballymena Today Youth team, started playing the flute in primary 4, through primary school, and now plays at secondary school, so she has been playing it for a long time. (Featured Image; Ray Bouknight; Creative Commons) For those who feel that they may wish to play the flute, here are a few suggestions from here that you may find helpful… When I was a lot younger, before I started playing the flute, I used to think that in order to blow it, you just had to be able to whistle. That, however, is not the case. To blow the...

Best milkshakes in Ballymena

If I was out for a day in Ballymena and needed a tasty drink, I know where to go…The Shake N Moo milkshake bar in the Fairhill shopping centre. (Featured Image Photo Credit: Yosoynuts; Creative Commons). In my opinion, they do the nicest milkshakes ever! They have every flavour from Haribo to Rhubarb and Custard – from Galaxy Caramel to, and my personal favourite, Oreo. I know I find it impossible to walk past without giving into the temptation of buying one – whoops! At their stall outside Easons they serve ice cream, slushies and smoothies, which I haven’t tasted yet – maybe...
