Year: 2015

Ballymena Today loves Sports

Yesterday Ballymena Today found out that Northern Ireland will be hosting the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2015. This is excellent for amateur sports stars in Ballymena and throughout Northern Ireland. The BBC say: Live on BBC One from The Odyssey Arena on Sunday 20 December, in front of an estimated 8,000 capacity audience, the prestigious event will round off another year of sport in style, celebrating the biggest sporting achievements, success stories, personalities and memorable moments. Now in its 62nd year, this is the first time that Northern Ireland has hosted the star-studded show, which first went on the road in 2006. Proudly home to a glistening array of sporting legends and rich in sporting heritage, it’s a fitting location to welcome the sporting heroes both present and past, in a packed year that includes a Rugby World Cup, Women’s Football World Cup and an Ashes on UK soil. 2015 will also see all the Olympic sports gearing up for Rio 2016, including the World Athletics Championships in August, plus all the home nations’ football teams seeking qualification for Euro 2016. Tickets will go on sale later on in the year from the Odyssey Arena Box Office. World Golf Number 1 and runner-up for Sports Personality of the Year 2014 Rory McIlroy says: “I think Belfast has shown over the past few years that it can hold massive...

Party at Grange Road, Ballymena

Party at Grange Road, anyone? At Ballymena Today we love a Thursday because it means we get to trawl through some Old Photos of Ballymena and come across gems just like this. Party at Grange Road, Ballymena This group are enjoying a party at Grange House which used to sit at the end of the Grange road. We guess that it is from the 1940’s and we love the glamour of the event. It is putting us in the mood for a garden party. We love the fashion, the poses and the bike thrown in for good measure! Also note the typical Northern Ireland weather leaving some of the poor ladies in their coats at the party!! For more photographs like this click here to visit the Old Photographs of Ballymena Facebook...

Over 1000 Ballymena blog posts

In December 2011 we posted for the first time online as The Directory Page, talking briefly about Ballymena, social media, print, design and a local directory for businesses. After those first few tentative steps we began widening our content, reaching out to more people and in doing so, we realised that we would have to keep challenging ourselves as time passed by. We blogged over 600 times on The Directory Page blog before evolving into Ballymena Today in the summer of 2014. We’ve now blogged here almost 500 times… We love Ballymena! We are passionate about seeing the town thrive… from local business to community organisations to education… and, our team are privileged to work alongside people in all of these areas every day and so, we want to continue to write about the good things! There is lots to be written about and to be shared and encouraged… This has never been just about networking… we want to build real relationships that benefit your business/organisation… we want to see the effects of that rub off on others around you. All of the words and images that make up over 1000 blog posts have taken tremendous effort, first by the businesses who have engaged with us, and then by our team who work tirelessly to keep finding new content. Online content is important to your business or organisation but Ballymena Today want to do far...

Ballymena Braid Film Theatre show Stand By Me

Braid Film Theatre at Braid Arts Centre in Ballymena will be showing classic film Stand By Me. We reckon that this is a classic which must be seen on the big screen. Based on a story by Stephen King and directed by Rob Reiner the film was Oscar nominated and tells the story of four boys who go on a hike across the countryside to find the dead body of a missing child. The Braid Film Theatre is part of the Ballymena Borough Council Arts Partnership and is operated by Tim Burden, and Gary Sullivan. Monthly screenings and specially programmed events are very much the idea behind the theatre. Films featured are either seminal classics, foreign, local short films or independent. They are always open to suggestions, so if you have a favourite movie you would love to see on the big screen again then please let them know. In the past they have shown modern classic such as “The Lives of Others”, “Ghostbusters” and “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Visit the Braid Film Theatre on Thursday 30th April to enjoy this classic film. Here is an iconic click to get you excited. We cant wait to see this on the big screen....
