Oxford Clinic Diagnostic Vascular Ultrasound Ballymena

Oxford Clinic on Broughshane Street, Ballymena has ben set up by a husband and wife team who want to offer a first-class vascular screening unit to Ballymena to reduce preventable cardiovascular deaths throughout the borough and beyond. Nicholas is a local Ballymena man, having lived at 5 Market rd for almost 30 years. He is a Clinical Vascular Scientist, and studied Clinical Science MSc at Newcastle and Physiology BSc (Hons) at Kings College London, with further training for three years at the world-renowned John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals. Nicholas was struck by the devastating discrepancy found between Northern Ireland and England regarding diagnostic health services provided, particularly in the Northern Trust area. The screening on offer helps detect aneurysms in the abdomen and carotid which can lead to stoke or TIA’s. He also works with the venous systems, particularly in the legs, to diagnoses the cause of varicose veins, clots (DVT) and many other leg problems which cause pain. The work of the Oxford Clinic is aimed at those who suffer from various cardio vascular conditions and diseases, to help prevent more serious ailments and to provide an earlier diagnosis to help reduce the risk or stroke and aneurysms across the borough. If people aren’t buying your product

Most people don’t care where they buy their every day goods from. Food, essentials and toiletries are often mundane purchases, with little interaction or uniqueness. Choose, pay, leave… A lot of people say price is the sole deciding factor for why we buy things these days. But we aren’t sure if that generalisation is fair, in fact we think it lets too many businesses of the hook. Worth & Value Ballymena Today love the wisdom of Seth Godin and, he had some brief but valuable thoughts on worth on his blog recently. He said this… If people aren’t buying your product, it’s not because the price is too high. It’s because we don’t believe you enough, don’t love it enough, don’t care enough. Read the full post here. If your business offers a service or product that can be obtained for less on the Internet then you need to stop complaining about the Internet. You can’t hold back that tide and in fact, you should have given up on that about 5 years ago. It’s too late. We have said this before… There is no magic wand The Ballymena Today team would love to wave a magic wand and transform your business. We can’t but, here’s a reminder of what/who we are and what we do. Ballymena Today is not a publicly funded organisation or project. We are simply a team of people...

Slemish Market Supper Club

Slemish Market Supper Club has been taking place regularly at several venues in and around the Ballymena area for a few months now. We had heard some great reports about it, so some of us from the Ballymena Today team decided it was time to try it for ourselves! The venue for this one was Glenariff Tea Rooms ….and what a view from here! Stunning! So with the Glens as a backdrop we were really looking forward to what chef Rob Curley and the guys from Slemish Market Garden had prepared for us. A quick scan over the menu and it was clear it wasn’t your average list of dishes! – but that’s why we went along, to experience new food and new flavours. The food at every Slemish Market Supper Club evening is either grown in Ballymena at the Market Garden or sourced from around the Ballymena area or the Glens – that’s as local and fresh as it’s possible to get. After Frank from Slemish Market Garden welcomed us all and Rob explained the menu it was time for course one of seven. Slemish Market Supper Club Menu Aperatif – Lumper potato, apple & tarragon eau de vie Wee Bite – Sungold tomato & fennel hummus Starter – Rabbit salad Fish – Glenariff crab, dulse mayonaisse & Bramley apple Meat – Lamb shank baked in dulse seaweed dough,...

Exercise with new mums in Ballymena

Ballymena welcomes mums to the People’s Park to get out and exercise together. Slip on your trainers, pop the baby in the buggy and head out with others for a but of fresh air and exercise. After having a baby it can be really difficult to find any time to squeeze any exercise in. Staying healthy, losing that little bit of baby weight and meeting up with other mums is a great idea – the buggy workout offers a scheduled time when you can meet in the park and have a walk with some other mummies and their babies. The buggy...

Ballymena Academy – Throwback Thursday

Ballymena Academy is a grammar school which was established in Ballymena in 1828. The school exists now on a large site on the Galgorm Road but it wasn’t always to be found in that location. Photo Source: Old Photos of Ballymena Ballymena Academy originally was situated off Thomas Street in Ballymena. The originally building was vacated many years before it was knocked down in order to provide a site which is now the Fairhill Shopping Centre. The red hands are borrowed from the Adair family arms, who gave the 1-acre (4,000 m2) of ground on which the original school was built, itself represented by the blue rectangle below. The ant represents hard work. The badger on the crest, accompanied by a lamp representing learning, is a pun on ‘Brocklamont’, site of the new school buildings, with ‘brock’ being an archaic word for badger. Sporting, academic, musical and other arts achievement are recognised by the award of a similar but distinctive coat of arms worn on the school blazer and also by the presentation of Honours Ties. The school motto is Tenax Propositi meaning Steadfast in Purpose.
